About the Book

     ‘Law Relating to Socio-Economic Offences’ is a comprehensive book for the students of law which contains various chapters dealing with the concept of socio-economic offences, types of socio-economic offences, changing dimensions of socio-economic crimes and issues related to it. Each chapter contains the meaning, definition, kinds, laws, problems and policies of each particular socio-economic offences.  There are various dimensions in which the issue of ‘socio-economic offences’ have been discussed.

 

     The present book contains fifteen chapters dealing with various kinds of socio-economic offences. The first chapter of the book is the Introduction to socio-economic offences. It contains the nature, concept and meaning of socio-economic offences. It gives an account of the socio-economic structure of the country. It also consists of the issues and challenges with regard to same. The chapter goes on to discuss the contemporary issues regarding it, for example, caste system, gender discrimination, drug abuse and addiction, communalism, poverty, economic impact of globalization in India, technological and cultural impact of globalization in India, rights of indigenous people, education and globalization, right to health etc. Lastly, the chapter discusses the various contemporary economic crimes in India.

 

     The book comprehensively discusses various types of socio-economic offences committed in the country. For example, White Collar Crimes, Corruption, Black Money, Money Laundering, Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion, Drug Trafficking, Human Trafficking, Child Prostitution, Child Labor, Bonded Labor etc. Offences like crimes committed against women, children, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, transgender, gays, lesbians, elderly persons are also elaborately discussed in the book. The book contains the issue of Juvenile Delinquency. The book also covers whole range of international and national legal measures so as to put a curb on the abovementioned problems. It also provides the reader with innumerable landmark judicial pronouncements delivered by the honorable judiciary of the country on socio-economic offences. Many government policies with regard to it are also there in the book.

 

     Chapter ten to fifteen of the book provides the reader a rich information about the Central Vigilance Commission, Investigative Authorities, Sentencing Policies, Legal Regime of Investigation and Enforcement, Legal Regime of Special Courts, Group Liability, Strict and Vicarious Liability, Quantum of Punishment, Withdrawal from Prosecution, Ombudsman or the Lokpal, Tax Reforms, Election Reforms and Prosecution Reforms in India.
